Nowadays I seemed to have "lost" to the "older" generation in terms of certain things. Mentalities and even phrases of speech. Below are real life examples that I have encountered (so far):

1) The using of WTH
Eg. The doc anyhow say one, say my bones degenerating. WTH man he!
[I'm still revving to come to terms with this. Because even I myself have not used this in my speech before...]

2) Not married but stays with the significant other at the age of 50++
[Wide-eyed amazed that the older-older generation can accept that...]

3) Having more types and quantity of face masks in the fridge than me.
[Self-explanatory]

I guess as time goes by, the list will get longer as I start to ponder once again. Have I "aged" before my time?

A day of insignificance to many. After all, what is it in comparison to today, 14 Feb 2011?

But that infortunately marks the date that I would never see the following words in the same light again: drop dead, Roland restaurant.

What started off as a call to locate someone that is kinda related to us but not seen and only heard of for more than 20 years turned out to be an event that would change things forever.

From frantic search to relief that she is found (so that the trip to the hospital would not be necessary), to unbelief and then denial, and finally to reality sinking in at the hospital eventually. All these happened within a span of less than 4 hours. The night marked the 3rd or perhaps 4th time we all saw our cousin; in all her 18years of age.

Would the departure bring about a reconciliation? Or would things stay the same, just with one less person around during gatherings and whose absence is felt much more? The hearty laughter, the choir / chinese orchestral stories have unexpectedly ceased prematurely on this 10th day of the lunar new year.

I finally went for my FIRST jog of 2011 today. Long overdue but well....

Just a thought that crossed my mind seeing all the kids ending school in the evening and the parents picking them up: I would very much like to do that for my kid next time.

My parent have never picked me up after school before. Not in pre-school, kindergarden, primary school nor the others. My dearest nanny picked my up from pre-school and kindergarden. The school bus picked me up in lower primary. I went home myself from upper primary onwards.

Seeing how the parents / grandparents / maid picked the kids up just now, I was kinda envious of them. No one used to carry my bag for me, no one except me and occassionally the maid we used to have.

I wanna grow up together with my children next time. To see them through the different stages in life. The many times I told myself, the many statements that were said to me, "I will never ever say that to my children next time." To not treat them as a money plant.

As I was playing with my new toy these few days, I realised that our life is very much like a "role-playing" game. You know how some games put you through certain scenarios or story lines and then let you choose the responses and then wire the other characters and next few scenes according to the response? I feel that life in essence is the same thing.

We live through life going through various "situations", we choose the various "responses" and then people around us will respons accordingly to whatever we say and do. And things happen according to our responses as well. According to our responses, people form a mental picture of us - so either their impression gets better (+ve points in the game) or worse (-ve points in the game).

And we know the aim of the game, let's say to get through to "High School" with good grades (romance is a plus if we can impress the right character) or to solve a "Murder Mystery". So accordingly, we choose hoping that it is the right response which will lead us to the "right" ending.

The only difference? The game that I play gives me a score at the end of each "chapter" so that I know where I stand and whether I am still "in the league" of attaining the desired ending. But life doesn't. The game allows me to "replay" my "chapter" should I feel that I did not perform as well as I should, giving me the hindsight that my earlier responses were not so correct for some of the scenarios. But life doesn't.

However. We all do have something that helps us in this little "game" that we play, called life. And that is my little black book and The Gentleman.

I need to learn to lean on them more daily. So that even though there are no "replays" in this "game" we play, I know I will still "play" it the right way - with their help.

Living a life of your own

You have never proved me wrong time and again. I wonder always, when will you stop following what your friends are doing and start living instead, a life of your own. But then again, I guess this leads to the natural progression of life. Isn't that where life is leading all of us to anyway? Perhaps.

I hope that before The Day arrives, you would have learnt to stand on your own 2 feet.

Our friends are here to support us through in life, not for us to follow their paths mindlessly (not that we do not have our own brains).

So please, stop being THAT lazy and start using that thing that sits in the big head of yours.

I slept for the longest time today. Woke up at 945am and then went back to sleep again at close to 1pm.

Lots of noise the whole time I was trying to sleep. But everything finally ceased at about 2pm, I'm guessing on this.

Woke up at almost 430pm and watched tv till until 615pm, before I finally made myself go run. Get a breather, in this trecherous weather...

But as I was jogging to the park where I usually run at, I saw the sunset. And then I had this thought in my mind - it's time to wake up from my fairytale.

A thousand and one things ran through my mind as I struggled to keep running from my lack of stamina. So many times we get judged from what people see, regardless of whether that is the truth. Until sometimes I ask myself, does truth really matter? Perception does seem to be the new reality.

All these while I guess I know where I wanna end up at. Just a tad not that willing to look at my end point since the journey is such a tough one. I just tell myself to keep moving, keep running, I will get there.

But then I recall that Jesus focused on the end, as His journey was an even tougher one. And the difference? I failed (as of now) while He had the victory not just for Himself, but for us all.

Time to wake up. Time to stop imaging what life could have been, no matter how close I seem to have been there some time back in my past. Time to focus on my end point, like my Friend, my Comforter, my Jesus.

I will get there. Just like how very often, sunset gets ignored as compared to the sunrise. But nevertheless the sunset looks just as pretty and magnificent as the sunrise.

I will get there.

EG & I went to the Night Festival on Friday night. Quite an interesting event considering the number of events going on, all at the same time. Plus you get to go to all the various museums and neighbouring places all for FREE!!!

Out of the blue last night, my co's ex-intern invited me for lunch - as celebration for my new job and before he begins his job search after his graduation (and before his dear gf comes back from US of cos...)

So he brought me to this really nice place with really YUMMY food!!!

Counting down 63days.

That's when I can start all over again. For as long as I can remember, I have been "struggling" with this. So much so that when I informed a small group of people about my impending change, countless msg came in with tons of "Congrats!"

And so my breakthru did happen after AC. The event this year that literally changed my life. Am looking forward to more breakthru's to come, applying all the things that I learnt over that span of 5days.

Many times we look for miracles in the spectaculars. But often, it's the seemingly insignificant moments and things that we persevere in that changes things.

Reporting to the brown building tmr, with a totally different feel. And. It feels GREAT! =D

She is not related to me by blood or by anything else. Yet she loved me and many other kids as her own while she took care of us when we were young.

I went back to the house where I grew up in. Stayed there for the 1st 5 years of my life. Went to school there, marketing there and practically wanted to stay there my whole life actually.

The buildings around there have gone. Burnt down by a huge fire many years ago. The inside had minimal changes though. With an extra room after upgrading, almost everything else remaind the same. Hmm, except that my uncle passed away 5years ago...

I told her that when I grow up and earn money, I will definitely give it to her and take care of her.

Time flies. We have grown up, she has grown old. And I still wanna keep my word. Love her lots! =)

I received a msg from FB last week. It was JC who asked if I'm free to meet up since my bday is coming. I was really touched. I mean, that's like 3 weeks before the actual day! The 1st gang to wanna meet me, with no hidden agenda, other than to spend time with me...

On Tues I got a msg from CM. She was trying to make arrangements for our meet-up and guess what? It materialized the very next day! I'm touched cos 2 mummies and a busy banker made time for me within such short notice... We usually take so long to arrange and many a times, some cannot turn up for various reasons. They decided to meet earlier cos JC if flying off to Taiwan tmr...

We went to a Jap restaurant for dinner: *TADA*

After buying raincoats (yes JC insists on getting them here even though there are going to be tons in Taiwan tmr when she flies over), we went to get a drink. Here's the cake:

They insisted that I eat more of it (which I didnt) since it was my "bday" cake. I told that it's not, COS I paid half for it lo... *hehehe*

Thanks for the many yrs of friendship we have had since 1997. Thanks for being my angels since JC to Uni to now. Yes many times I literally cry while laughing with you gals.

i always believe that there is something magical about night time.

yes i'm definitely nocturnal.

somehow late nights are times when u let ur guard down.

when u begin blabbering things you shouldnt (and wouldnt) during normal times.

when u open up to pple that choose to talk to u at such times.

my frd (who initiated the chat with me) says she's worried to talk to me. cos she might just tell me all her secrets. and then she will need to silence me... *hahaha*

on my end, i'm not worried abt that. cos (in a bad sense) i'm nt exactly a very open person.

for most pple, they need to make the 1st initial effort to step into my world 1st. few bother to, and even fewer dare to i guess.

late nights are "sappy songs" time for me. tt's why i love gg for livebands at night.

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - People who are trying to stay trim may want to make sure they get plenty of sleep.

In a study, researchers found that normal-weight young men ate a Big Mac's-worth of extra calories when they'd gotten four hours of sleep the night before compared to when they slept for eight hours.

Given the findings, and the fact that people have been sleeping less and getting fatter over the past few decades, "sleep restriction could be one of the environmental factors that contribute to the obesity epidemic," they write in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

A number of studies have linked shorter sleep duration with higher body mass index (BMI) -- a measure of weight in relation to height used to gauge whether someone is overweight or obese. But no experimental studies to date have actually looked at what happens to a normal-weight person's eating patterns when he or she sleeps less.

To investigate, Dr. Laurent Brondel of the European Center for Taste Sciences in Dijon, France, and colleagues looked at sleep, eating, and energy expenditure in 12 healthy young men across two 48-hour sessions.

Two days served as a control period, during which the study participants stuck to their normal routines but kept track of their sleep, eating and activities in a diary. During the second two-day period, the men went to bed at midnight and woke up at 8 a.m. on one day, and on the other day went to bed at 2 a.m. and woke up at 6 a.m. They were allowed to eat as much as they liked.

After the night of short sleep, the researchers found, the men took in 22 percent more calories, on average, than when they were allowed to sleep for eight hours. They ate more at breakfast and dinner, but not at lunch. The average calorie increase was about 560.

It's possible that people might eat more after a short sleep because mammals have evolved to store up calories in the summer, when nights are short and food is plentiful, Brondel and his colleague Dr. Damien Davenne of the University de Caen in Caen, France noted in an email to Reuters Health.

The findings make it clear that people need to do their best to get an adequate amount of sleep so their bodies can function properly, Brondel and Davenne add. "It is time to understand that sleep is not just losing time, besides the recovery processes that occur, there are many other functions (energy conservation, memory and so on) which are going on."

Today was a really unique day.

I had 5 pple that dun usually talk to me at all, talking to me on MSN.

Discounting one that did that just to get me to do something (which I refuse to cos I was really busy), the rest came to talk to me sincerely without any hidden agenda. I love such folks.

One was my ex-member's frd's frd. *hehehe* Such a sweet gal. I'll ensure I drop by to visit her the next time I go to Far East.

Then there was my JC frd. Who comforted me after my depressing day...

Then there was JA! Who gave me tips on how to be happier and more focused.

Yes I can do it. Stop being so ... I shall be happier once I achieve that. One of the things that I wanna achieve.

Our meet-up had to remain a secret due to the unexpected number of failures we always had. Even this time round, we almost could not make it. Cyn always had to go to the warehouse last minute, and this time round I was almost stuck in the office indefinitely... It was certainly hilarious trying to arrange it, but I shall spare you the details here... =)

I love Fridays!

The day that I usually take leave to nuah at home or do girly stuff that I dun have time to do on most days.

But today is SPECIAL.

Today is the day my Savior died for me.

But thankfully He rose again 3 days later. I'm grateful that He didn't just die for me. His rising up again represents that He's real and very much alive!

Thru Him, my life need not remain in the shambles. I already have the victory! There can be miracles cos Jesus rose up and did the impossible. Hence thru Him, we can do the impossible as well.
